The Romanesque Room was the site of a “tasting” for some of the delicious cuisine offerings that will be available at MonteCedro, a new retirement community soon to open in Altadena.
Their Chefs prepared a variety of delectable dishes for residents and those considering MonteCedro to enjoy. Castle Catering staff provided the service.
The room was set up with “stations” around the perimeter so guests could sample a variety of foods. The stations included: tacos / gnocchi / beef filet / salads / desserts.
Everyone enjoyed the event and left with a satisfied appetite. They received a tasty example of what awaits them when they move into their new community.

Bethany Christian School, located in Sierra Madre, recently hosted their first annual graduation dinner at The Romanesque Room. BCS began in 1976 and their mission is to partner with parents to educate, develop and nurture students from preschool through 8th grade for a life of excellence in academics, character and leadership. The school wanted to honor and celebrate with their graduating 8th graders and it was a great evening for the students and their family and friends. Bethany Christian has already reserved their date for next year’s graduation dinner so a tradition has begun! The Castle Catering Chefs prepared the meal and it included spring mix salad, two pastas and two sauces, green beans and garlic bread sticks. It was served buffet style. The dessert was lemon bars and Castle Catering’s “signature” chocolate chunk cookies. A mother of one of the students made beautiful floral centerpieces which added to the festive atmosphere. There was a slide show and awards were presented. It was a wonderful celebration and the students can look forward to high school in the fall!

The buffet included Caesar salad, two types of pasta (penne and rotelli), two sauces (marinara and white wine tomato basil), chicken strips on the side, hot vegetables and garlic bread. Dessert was chocolate chunk cookies served with milk “martinis”. These were passed later in the evening.

Last weekend another wedding reception was held in the Romanesque Room. Because the venue is an historical landmark, the architecture is unique and adds to the beauty and ambiance of every occasion.
The couple used one of our preferred vendors for their DJ and lighting needs. Ken Lyle, Music Entertainment Services, provides outstanding DJ services as well as spectacular uplighting and specialty lighting. Ken can be reached at (310) 721-6450. The couple used a Restaurant Partner, El Metate, for their Mexican buffet. Everaldo was the contact person at (626) 229-0706 … www.elmetate-cafe.com. The guests enjoyed a menu of meat and spinach enchiladas, beef fajitas, rice and beans, salad and bread. Chips and salsa and pupusas were additional items served.
Castle Catering provided two hors d’oeuvres that were passed during the cocktail hour … chicken salad puffs and goat cheese and sundried tomato crostini. King’s Hawaiian Restaurant provided the cake for the event. Natural Area Rugs provided carpeting.
Bill Sullivan, owner of The Bottle Shop in Sierra Madre, provided the alcohol.
Recently the Romanesque Room was the site of a 1st birthday celebration.
The room was decorated befitting a little “Princess” and included a candy buffet and special seating for the guest of honor.
Deshi Food provided a menu of Indian cuisine for the party under the guidelines of our Restaurant Partners Program.
Castle Catering is able to provide our full service catering and Restaurant Partners program at any venue that allows outside caterers. Recently we catered a wedding at the Maxwell House, located in the Western Justice Center in Pasadena. One of our Restaurant Partners, StoneFire Grill, provided the food. This is a great venue for smaller groups (100 guests or less) and is an historical landmark. Ceremonies can be held in their courtyard followed by the reception in their beautifully appointed living room and library.
Two events were recently held in The Romanesque Room. A Sweet 16 birthday party was held on March 27. The theme was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and the iconic little blue box from Tiffany’s was part of the décor. The theme was carried out in the colored lighting for the room as well as the centerpieces. The group enjoyed food prepared by Castle Catering including hors d’oeuvres and two stations. The Castle Catering “Mashed Potato Martini Bar” was a big hit as well as the Tri-tip and pulled pork sliders. The host provided dessert including a candy buffet which also was decorated in the Tiffany blue and white. All the guests enjoyed music and dancing … it was a festive celebration for a “milestone” birthday.
The following day, on March 28, a wedding reception was held in The Romanesque Room. Food was supplied by a Restaurant Partner … StoneFire Grill (www.stonefiregrill.com) and Curry India Bistro (www.curryindiabistro.com). Curry India Bistro worked with Castle Catering under the guidelines of our Restaurant Partners Program which allows our clients to order food directly from a restaurant and then Castle Catering provides the service for the event. A unique feature was that this was a wedding from two cultures and we were able to combine both Indian and traditional American food into one extraordinary buffet.
Every couple definitely wants to get married in the end after running through a serious relationship with their partner. After all, what is the use of a relationship if it is not finally bound by a sacred wedding, isn’t it? Well, speaking of wedding, there are actually a number of things to consider, one of which is the place to organize the wedding event. To tell the truth, deciding where to organize a wedding event is not as easy as turning over the palm of the hands. Instead, there are a number of factors to take into accounts here. These factors will be described below.
A Hall or an Open Space
When it comes to a wedding, every couple actually has the opportunity to choose whether the couple wants their marriage ceremony to take place at a grand hall or ballroom or at an open space instead. For those couples out there that choose to organize their wedding ceremony at a hall, they will have to make sure that the hall has a large size. Of course, it will be ridiculous if the hall can’t accommodate all the guests to the sacred wedding event, right? Therefore, in this case, couples have to estimate carefully how many people they are inviting to the event.
On the other hand, couples that organize their wedding event at an open venue will not have to be confused about the number of guests to invite. It is an open space, after all. Wedding ceremonies held in such a place often give the married couples unforgettable memories. However, when the ceremony is over, the couples need to think who is going to clear up the mess.
The next thing to take into consideration here is the parking spaces available. It is utterly important that the wedding guests find it convenient to park their vehicles when they attend to the ceremony. Their vehicles should not distract the traffic at the nearby area, either, when parked.
It is common for wedding ceremonies to feature some bands these days. However, it is important that the acoustics in the area are good. Thing is, if the wedding venue echoes a lot, it may be quite disturbing for the band.
Lighting is one of the most vital elements of a wedding ceremony. With proper lighting, a wedding ceremony can become more alive. On the other hand, bad lighting can destroy the event instead. Lighting should be adjusted according to the time of the wedding reception. A good idea here would be to use lighting that can be manually controlled.
On February 12, Castle Catering hosted 45 soldiers and their spouses to a special Valentine’s Day dinner in the Romanesque Room. This is the 3rd year we have hosted this wonderful event. The evening began with a cocktail hour and appetizers at our “sister property”, Castle Green. Then the guests came to the Romanesque Room to enjoy inspirational speakers, a delicious dinner and dancing.
Valentines, many of which contained handwritten notes, were received from across the United States to thank these veterans for their service to our country. In addition, donations that totaled over $2,000 were collected for the Wounded Warrior Project.

On January 30, the Pasadena Roving Archers once again held their annual Awards Dinner at The Romanesque Room.
Castle Catering prepared the food for the event.
The Pasadena Roving Archers has their archery range in the Arroyo, near the Rose Bowl. The organization was started in November 1935 and will be celebrating their 80th anniversary this year.
They provide instruction and also offer archers an opportunity to participate in both weekly and annual tournaments.
The PRA has been consulted for training for the Olympics and for various movies where archery is featured.
